Finland, with its rollercoaster crests and flat-out gravel roads, is the spiritual home of rallying. In total, about a fifth of the country's population comes to watch the event, which started on Thursday night with a spectator superspecial on the Killeri trotting track near Rally Headquarters in Jyvaskyla. Suzuki driver P-G Andersson leads after the opening stage, while his team mate Guy Wilks is fourth.

P-G Andersson (1st in JWRC after SS1):
"I won here two years ago and I'm looking forward to trying to do the same again. However, Finland is such a quick rally that you have to be careful as well. I'm not going to go mad - I think I have to see what everybody else is doing over the first few stages and then adjust my speed to match them. The superspecial went very well: there's always a fantastic atmosphere in Finland. It's definitely one of my favourite rallies of the year."
Guy Wilks (4th in JWRC after SS1):
"I love fast gravel stages, so this is an event that suits me and the Suzuki Swift really well. After a bit of time off over the summer I can't wait to get started again. You really have to commit to these stages to get the best out of them, so I'm going to be pushing hard. I think the pace this weekend is going to be very hot, so I'm looking forward to getting stuck in. You need a quick car here but also one that is easy to drive and reliable: the Swift is perfect for that."
Nobuhiro'Monster' Tajima, team principal:
"The important thing for me is that both of our drivers get to the finish of this rally. We are at a very important point in the championship, so it is vital for each of our drivers to drive with his head as well as his right foot! Having said that, Rally Finland is a prestigious event that every driver wants to win. We have won our class here in the past with the Suzuki Ignis - now we will try to put the Swift on the list of winners in Finland as well!"
