The Rally Japan, the 14th round of the World Rally Championship will take place from 26th to 28th October. Though this is not an event of the Junior Rally Championship (JRC), Urmo Aava and Kulder Sikk from Estonia will attend the rally with Swift Super 1600 of 2005.
The driver Urmo Aava, one of the fastest drivers in JRC, will show the full performance of Swift Super 1600 in the home country of Suzuki Sport. Spectators must expect their aggressive smart driving at the world highest level just after the unfortunate retire at the Tour de Corse where the JRC title was decided.
Hokkaido is the second largest island covering about 78,000 square kilometers in the Japanese Archipelago. It is almost on the same latitude as northern Italy or southern France. The cold currents that flows southwards bring this land much snow while wintertime. Even drift ices from the Ohoktsk Sea reach its shore in the cold season. Hokkaido was developed by the settlers from main island of Japan disembarked nearly 200 years ago. Only Ainu people lived there until then. Some peaces of Ainu still remain as many place-names in Hokkaido. The Special Stages (SS) of the Rally Japan are named based on those Ainu names.
The Tokachi plain where the Rally Japan is held is south eastern area of Hokkaido. The plain is surrounded by the Ishikari Mountains in the north and the Hidaka Mountains in the west. Agriculture and dairy are main industries in this area with stable weather and flat rich land. Most of the SS are staged on foots of mountains. Rally cars will go through a way in the idyllic landscape or in the woods. Super Special Stage (1.35km) is set nearby the Service Park and spectator can enjoy exciting show every day at ease.
The ceremonial start at the city center of Obihiro where the Rally HQ will be set is planned at 19:30 on 25th. Competitors will run 1,575.79km including 27SS covering 350.19km during 3days.
